Dr. Stanley M. Duchman was born on a farm outside of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended Iowa State University studying Biology, received a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology where he was honored as the outstanding teaching assistant in the area of physiology from the University of Iowa and continued on to medical school where he received his degree from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. He then discovered the greatness of Texas and received his clinical training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease at Baylor College of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals.
During his Cardiology fellowship, Dr. Duchman spent one year as a heart failure and heart transplant cardiologist where he had the unique opportunity of taking care of the first patients to receive the DeBakey Left Ventricular Assist Device. He then completed an additional year of training in Interventional Cardiology where he served as the Chief Interventional Fellow at The Texas Heart Institute.
His interests are in the areas of interventional devices for improved treatment of coronary artery disease and potential interventional mechanisms for the identification of failing heart muscle and subsequent therapeutic options. Dr. Duchman has authored papers in the areas of optimal solutions for oral rehydration, heart failure mechanism and potential treatment and a recent review of an interventional cardiology text for the Texas Heart Institute Journal.
Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Board eligible in Cardiovascular disease, Nuclear Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology.
Wife Lisa is a practicing Optometrist in Houston.
